Established in May 2014, the unit initially functioned as the 40th Territorial Defence Battalion (BTRO), predominantly comprising volunteers from Kryvyi Rih and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. By late 2014, the battalion underwent reorganisation, transitioning into a Motorised Infantry Battalion and becoming part of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. This battalion played a crucial role in some of the most challenging early conflicts of the War in Donbas, notably participating in the defence of critical positions near Debaltseve in early 2015. The military patch that we present is a piece of history.
